Mew Book Nook: A Hideout Between Books

Have you ever imagined to go into those cute little book nooks decorations, to escape from the real world and dive into the fictional world, to live between the pages?

Mewracle: A Space With Endless Potential

We dedicated a space in our art shop for a seasonal art installation, every three months we will come up with a new theme idea and we would try to make it happen with a limited budget, mostly built from scratch and with up-cycle materials from past projects. This time we imagined how it would feels like to walk into the little bookshelves decoration called book nook, how does it feels to be reading in the embrace of books, and this is what we came up with.

Big books and big dreams

We've always wanted to make a book themed Mewracle but we just couldn't figure out how to filled up the space. One day Mel had the brilliant idea to make a gigantic version of the book nook and we went straight for it, without even doubting if we could actually make it with just cardboard. The first step to make something crazy is to dream, we could picture so clearly in our head we had to figure out a way to bring the idea alive.

The most challenging part of the build is to make the books taller than most human, and they had to be able to stand on it's own for three whole months. We underestimated the time needed for the books because we thought "it's just a few big flat board glued together", we also underestimated the difficulty of the letterings and design of the book spine, we ended up spending a few nights at the shop and delaying the Mewracle launch date. Now watching in hindsight, I think it was all worth it.
